Hello everyone!
Welcome to my archaeological adventure! I'm Paweł, an enthusiast with over a decade of field experience. My journey into the mysteries of the past began in a quaint Polish town, where archaeological enigmas surrounded me. From a young age, my parents introduced me to 'Archeologia Żywa' magazines, a collection I still cherish, and took me on exploratory trips to places like the megalithic barrows in Wietrzychowice or the renowned Archaeological Festival in Biskupin. These early escapades ignited my curiosity and set me on a path to delve into the history of our ancestors.
My passion first led me to the Knights' Brotherhood of the Kalisz Land, where my friends and I brought ancient history to life in a practical way. Afterwards, I began my studies at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, where I had the honour of studying under the tutelage of eminent Polish archaeologists such as Professor Andrzej Kola. It was during my studies that I attended a fascinating lecture by George Bass, the explorer of the famous Titanic wreck, which sparked my interest in underwater archaeology. Under the watchful eye of Dr Andrzej Pydyn, I acquired diving skills and participated in underwater excavations in Ostrów Lednicki, uncovering the remains of the forgotten bridge. This opened up a new underwater world of exploration for me.
My first excavation experience was transformative. In the scorching Akerman steppes near Odessa, I and a team led by Dr. Ingia Głuszek delved into the remains of ancient Nikonion. This unforgettable journey solidified my belief that archaeology is not just a passion but my life's calling.
Since then, I have continually expanded my experience by participating in various research projects. In 2016, I decided to move to the UK, where, after a period of adaptation, I decided to continue my studies at the University of Edinburgh. I am currently completing an MSc in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), which allows me to combine traditional archaeological methods with modern technologies.
My experiences have taught me that archaeology requires technical knowledge and skills, passion, perseverance, and the ability to work in a team. I strive to develop these qualities daily, aiming to contribute as much as possible to understand our past better. In the future, I hope to lead my own archaeological expeditions, focusing on megalithic Europe, and continue bridging the gap between traditional and modern archaeological methods through the use of GIS and other technologies.
If you share my passion for unearthing the mysteries of bygone eras and are eager to learn more about my work, I invite you to reach out. I am always ready for new challenges, opportunities for collaboration, and the enriching exchange of experiences in a field that continues to captivate and inspire me.
